Community Impact

  • Supporting surgical education
  • Expanding healthcare opportunities
  • Building global healthcare connections

GSSC supported the establishment of the International Rural Surgical Education Fund (IRSEF) in 2023, reflecting our belief that stronger healthcare outcomes are built through education, mentoring and shared experience.

The initiative has a strong connection to GSSC specialist surgeon Mr Edward Yeboah, whose own background and experiences helped inspire the fund and its focus on supporting surgical education and professional development internationally.

IRSEF aims to help create opportunities for international surgeons, trainees and surgical health professionals to further develop their skills, experience and professional networks, particularly within rural and developing healthcare settings.

Support may include:

  • Conference and scientific meeting attendance
  • Presentation opportunities
  • Mentorship and networking
  • Training and clinical experience
  • Professional development opportunities

While still in its early stages, the initiative reflects the broader belief that access to knowledge, training and professional connection can have a lasting impact well beyond a single healthcare service or region.
